Performance Exhaust Systems
Golf MK7 Catback Exhaust
One complete system, documented end to end: SS304, valved, for the MK7 and MK7.5 Golf R.
The Golf MK7 catback is the catback family's worked example: one complete system documented in full — size, material, valve layout, tips and fitments — rather than a family in general terms. The system is a 3.0-inch SS304 valved catback for the Volkswagen Golf MK7 R and MK7.5 R on the 2.0T engine, supplied with blue tips in the documented example.
It stands for the platform logic of the whole catback range: the system is developed on the car's data, welded on a fixture, its valve bench-tested, and its hangers and joints placed so the installer meets the car where the car expects them.

The System in Detail
The documented system runs 3.0-inch SS304 pipework from the mid-pipe joint to the tailpipes, through a valved muffler section. The valve gives the system its two states: closed through the full muffler path, open through the freer route, switched by the driver. The tips in the documented example are finished blue — the heat-coloured tip option in the range's tip program.
Fitments are the MK7 R and the facelift MK7.5 R on the 2.0T. Sibling MQB applications — the GTI and the Audi relatives — are separate systems on the same platform logic, confirmed in the same inquiry.
| Element | Documented specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pipework | 3.0-inch SS304 | Mid-pipe joint to tailpipes |
| Muffler section | Valved (Valvtronic layout) | Two paths, driver-switched |
| Tips | Blue finish in the documented example | Carbon and polished also produced |
| Fitments | Golf MK7 R, MK7.5 R, 2.0T | GTI and Audi siblings confirmed separately |
How This System Is Built
Development follows the range's sequence: the original system is scanned, the replacement is designed in CAD from that data, fixtures are cut, and the prototype is fitted to the car before release. Production systems are TIG welded on the fixture, so hanger positions, the valve body orientation and the tip alignment are fixture facts, repeated on every system. Flanges are CNC machined, and the sections are joined with V-band connections where the design calls for them, so a section can be removed and refitted on its register rather than persuaded into place.
The valve is cycled on the bench with its controller before the system is packed. On a valved system that test is the difference between a feature and a returns queue, and it is run on every system, not on samples of the batch.
Fitment on the MQB platform follows the platform's own logic: the R system is the flagship application, and its fixture was developed against the R's floorpan and rear section. The GTI and the Audi relatives share the platform, not the system — their rear sections differ in detail, and each is fixtured separately. Programs covering the platform should therefore list the cars individually; the reply prices the R system on its own specification and its siblings as its own systems, rather than stretching one part number across a platform it only partly fits.
Specifying the MK7 System for Your Program
Programs specify the platform cars they cover, the valve specification and the tip program — blue, carbon or polished — and branding where the order is private label. The reply confirms the documented system against your model list, separates the R system from its GTI and Audi siblings, and quotes each as its own system. A single approval system can be ordered first and checked on your own car.
