The EA888 downpipe serves the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform cars — the Golf GTI and Golf R, the Audi A3 and S3 and their relatives — which share an engine family across several badges. It is the downpipe family's second anchored detail page, and its story is the platform story: one engine, one fixture family, many cars. The EA855 five-cylinder applications in the RS3 sit adjacent to it in the same production family.

One Engine Family, Several Cars
MQB is a platform, and the downpipe is a platform part: the turbo position, flange pattern and routing are shared across the cars built on it, with the detail differences carried by model and model year. The fixture is the engine's rather than a single car's, and the inquiry confirms the car-specific points (mid-pipe joint, sensor count, shield fitment) against your model.

Construction Notes for the MQB Pipe
The pipe is mandrel bent and TIG welded on the platform fixture. The catalyst section on the catted variant sits where the factory section sat; the catless variant runs the same routing without it. Sensor bosses are placed from scanned positions on the original part for each model variant — MQB cars differ in sensor arrangement by generation, and the fixture record carries the difference rather than leaving it to the installer. The catted variant carries a 200-cell high-flow catalyst section, and both variants are built in SS304, with titanium versions in the same family.
Heat shields are specified where the application lists them, in single and double-layer form, and ceramic coating is available over the brushed or polished stainless finish.
One construction point separates the platform pipe from a generic one: the routing has to serve both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the platform, whose undersides differ around the propshaft and rear drivetrain.
